Chelsea are set to dismiss contact from Real Madrid over Reece James signing
Chelsea have made their stance clear on the Reece James sale, as the club is not in the mood to entertain any approach from Real Madrid for the right-back.
According to Fabrizio Romano, (h/t Express) Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino feel the right-back remains an integral part of the club for short- and long-term periods.
Chelsea have invested heavily in young players and feel James will be the central figure of the project which the club is currently building under Mauricio Pochettino.
Regardless of his frequent injuries, the 23-year-old has been seen as one of the most important players at the club and has the full support of the Argentine manager. The 51-year-old has also named James as captain of the club for this season despite having senior players, with Ben Chilwell offering support as his deputy.
However, the England international has only played 105 minutes since inheriting the captain’s armband. And despite his injuries, James remains Real’s potential signing for next summer.
The Los Blancos want to replace their ageing right-back Dani Carvajal with James next summer. Real also believes James’ signing will be a success, just like Jude Bellingham. Meanwhile, James also has no intention of leaving Chelsea, as he wants to captain his boyhood and hopes to lead them to a trophy this season.
James is one of the top right-backs and the most crucial player for Chelsea. The Blues have no intention of selling him to Real. It is imperative that Chelsea decline any offer from the Spanish captain and explicitly state that James cannot be transferred. He brings a great deal of quality and importance to the team.
