“We were all frustrated”- Mauricio Pochettino explains row with Chelsea fan after Nicolas Jackson comment

Chelsea willing to sell promising talent wanted by many clubs including West Ham United

Chelsea endured a frustrating 2-0 defeat to Brentford, ending their four-game unbeaten streak. The Blues, as usual, were better sides and had plenty of chances to score goals, but came short in front of the net.

The West Londoners certainly regretted their missed chances after Brentford took the lead in the 58th minute when Ethan Pinnock headed the ball at the far post. They subsequently put the game to bed in injury time through Bryan Mbeumo after Robert Sanchez was caught out of position as Chelsea threw the kitchen sink at the Brentford goal.

Jackson himself had a disappointing game and couldn’t make much of those chances as he was often isolated. Playing against a low-block side is always hard, and when you don’t make those chances count, you end up regretting them later.

The Senegalese has just two goals in the Premier League in his nine appearances, but it will be early to start expecting him to be prolific without the necessary experience. The English league is very demanding and we should give Jackson the time to familiarise himself with the demands and expectations.

Frustrated by their performance, a fan shouted at Nicolas Jackson during halftime, “Wake up and score a goal,” and the striker replied, “Be quiet.” When Pochettino was questioned by a reporter regarding the incident, (h/t Evening Standard) he said:

“Because it was calm, one fan said, oh, wake up and started to abuse a little bit. I don’t say that abuse, but it’s abusing. For Nico, he lost a little bit of focus. I said, Come on, be focused here. He repeated it again and said, “Oh, let’s stop talking this way; we need support; stay behind the team’’.

The dissatisfaction of the fans was evident, as we were all let down by the fact that we ought to have scored in the first half. The only thing stopping us from becoming the most dominant side in the league is a lack of cutting-edge play in front of the net. In addition, we faced opposition with a low-block approach, which made it harder to score, but we did have opportunities and ought to have utilised them.

Hopefully, Jackson hasn’t taken fans’ criticism to heart and will work on it. He has that talent, and we shouldn’t let it go to waste. But then even the supporters should throw their support behind the players rather than create conflict. The last thing we need now is a house divided.
