Chelsea target Nico Gonzalez reveals he hopes to win Copa Libertadores with River Plate
Nico Gonzalez, who has been targeted by the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, claimed he dreams of winning the Copa Libertadores with his childhood club, River Plate.
Gonzales currently plying his trade for Serie A club Fiorentina and is now under the radar of the Premier League, including Chelsea. However, the forward has different ambitions than playing for the English sides.
The 25-year-old missed the FIFA 2022 World Cup due to injury as his national team lifted the trophy. Since returning from injury, the forward has started the new season with seven goals in all competitions.
Chelsea at this point could do better without another winger, as they boast plenty of players who have occupied both the left and right flanks, and we don’t know if Gonzalez will be an ideal signing for us.
We already have talented players such as Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, and Cole Palmer. We should focus more on their growth than on adding another winger. However, despite interest from Premier League sides, the Argentine forward has revealed his dream club and told ESPN Argentina:
“I really want to play for River. I want my brother to see me in that shirt. It would be very special. But today I am in Europe. One day, I hope it comes true. I wouldn’t go to the river for a walk. You have to win everything. I would love to win the Copa Libertadores and the championship. It would be very nice.”
Knowing that we already have Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku, Mudryk, Madueke, and Palmer at the disposal, adding another winger shouldn’t be on the agenda. Even if they sign him, it might take him some time to settle into life in the English Premier League. Our current key priority should be identifying a proven striker who can consistently deliver goals.

Gonzalez is 25 years old, and considering that Liverpool are also interested he may be an appropriate choice for them to sign him since the Reds at some point have to find a replacement for Mohamad Salah on the right wing.
