Mauricio Pochettino singles out ‘unbelievable player’ for praise after Chelsea ‘lost two points’ vs Arsenal

Injury update after the win against Crystal Palace as Chelsea gear up for their final game of 2023.

Mauricio Pochettino was impressed by Cole Palmer’s performance in Chelsea draw with Arsenal

Mauricio Pochettino was impressed by Cole Palmer’s performance and labelled him an unbelievable player in the Chelsea 2-2 draw with their London rivals Arsenal.

Palmer operated in a different position but was mainly tasked with occupying the No. 9 area, and the youngster didn’t disappoint as he scored his second Premier League goal for Chelsea.

Palmer’s presence gives us calmness in possession as his hold-up play allows the other players to settle in their positions and play free-flowing football.

Knowing Palmer is young but so mature with his play is really impressive. His signing from Manchester City has paid dividends, and he will only get better.

Mauricio Pochettino might have seen how William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes dealt with Erling Haaland in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over City. So he might have used Palmer and Raheem Sterling as makeshift centre-forwards, which could have given Arsenal a different issue, and it actually worked.

The Argentine manager was satisfied with Palmer’s performance and gave his honest opinion on his display against Arsenal. Speaking to BBC MOTD, he said:

“I think we lost two points. He (Palmer) is an unbelievable player. He is so young but is so open to learning. He showed his personality is strong.”

Palmer was magnificent and controlled the game in the attack. He scored his well-deserved goal when he converted the penalty kick. The 21-year-old stepped up and scored a great penalty, despite the fact that taking a penalty in such a high-intensity game is not for the timid. His composure while doing so is really outstanding. When David Raya’s misdirected pass fell on him, he had the opportunity to score again, but he took too long, and Raya quickly intercepted the ball away from him.

Palmer’s performance, however, has undoubtedly assured him of regular playing time, and Noni Madueke faces a stiff battle to take Palmer’s place.
