Liverpool join Chelsea in the race for Napoli star Victor Osimhen
Italian journalist Valter De Maggio has revealed Liverpool have shown strong interest in signing Chelsea target Victor Osimhen. The Blues have added the Napoli striker to their January list as they seek to solve their goalscoring issue, but now face competition from Premier League side Liverpool.
The Reds haven’t had a goal slump like that, but appears they need to find a natural goal scorer despite having a few good possibilities for the centre-forward position.
Osimhen, who led Napoli to Scudetto, could be open to leaving the Serie A club after the recent video posted on Napoli’s Tiktok official page mocking the striker.
Although the situation has now settled down, it is still unclear whether he would like to continue his career at a Serie A club. Osimhen is a striker that Chelsea have been interested in for a while and who could be the perfect solution to their goal-scoring struggles.
However, Blues had to contend with a new team to land the 24-year-old deal, as claimed by journalist Valter De Maggio on Radio Goal ( h/t Napoli Magazine):
“There is strong, strong interest in Victor Osimhen from Liverpool. Then we will need to understand if the Reds will put pressure on Osimhen’s agent, whether it is renewed or not.
It remains to be seen if Osimhen will extend his contract in light of the recent TikTok drama. Given that his contract expires in 2025, (Transfermarkt) the Serie A club may have to sell him during the winter or summer transfer windows if he doesn’t ink a new deal. They do not want to lose their most valuable possession for free or on the cheap.

Osimhen fits the bill nicely for both clubs. Liverpool’s interest makes sense given that they only have one centre-forward, Darwin Nunez, who hasn’t been reliable. However, Liverpool haven’t had the same scoring problems as Chelsea, who haven’t been able to locate a reliable centre-forward. Of course, there will be more interest in signing him, but for now, let’s wait and see what unfolds with his contract.
