“Sometimes I watch Chelsea and I’m so disappointed”- French legend says the Blues won’t finish in the top four

Marcel Desailly fires a shot at Chelsea and their hopes of finishing in the top four

Marcel Desailly has shared his candid assessment of Chelsea and their prospects for a top-four finish, and the Blues’ recent form has left him feeling less than optimistic about their chances.

Currently residing in the 11th spot in the Premier League, Chelsea have secured only three wins in eight Premier League matches. It would hardly come as a shock if Chelsea misses out on the top four, given their ongoing process of rebuilding.

Under new ownership, Chelsea has undertaken an ambitious squad overhaul, bringing in a crop of promising young players seen as the future of the club.

Nevertheless, this project will require at least a season or more to yield substantial results, and in the meantime, Chelsea might experience a bumpy ride. Still, there remains hope that they can mount a challenge for a top-four spot.

The current squad displays competitiveness, and their performances have been convincing. However, a persistent concern has been their lack of efficiency in front of the goal. This aspect might be disheartening for former Chelsea player Desailly, who, as reported by Football London, believes the Blues won’t secure a top-four finish. He shared his thoughts with Gambling Zone, stating:

“I don’t see Chelsea achieving a top-four finish. It pains me to say that, but it’s the truth! I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see how they can do that. Chelsea have too many players who need to adapt and perform week in and week out.”

“It’s all about rebuilding a new foundation for the club with talented players. It’s good to see them generating confidence because they were so poor for so long. There were so many mistakes. Sometimes I watch Chelsea and I’m so disappointed, but other times I think they’re amazing. The potential is there.”

Accepting the possibility of not finishing in the top four this season seems reasonable. Chelsea find themselves in a phase where building a competitive team is a long-term endeavour. Many young players have been brought in to contribute to the club’s resurgence as title contenders. This transformation is a time-consuming process, and, as Desailly rightly pointed out, consistency is paramount.

Perhaps by the next season, we will witness Chelsea emerging as a title-challenging force under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino. The potential exists within the club, and it won’t be long before it begins to materialize. In the meantime, patience and faith in the process will be vital.
