Burnley boss Vincent Kompany reveals he has no problem with Chelsea spending exorbitantly in the transfer market

Chelsea are set to face Burnley, and the Clarets head coach, Vincent Kompany has defended the Blues extravagant spending after the West Londoners spent around £350 million on 11 new players in the recently concluded 2023 summer transfer window.

Since taking ownership of the Blues, Todd Boehly has completely revamped the Chelsea squad He has been liberal with recruitment and has spent around £1 billion to bring in players. raising eyebrows among pundits and managers.

Despite the hefty spending, the start of the new season under Mauricio Pochettino has gone as planned, as they have secured only two wins in their opening seven Premier League games so far.

The West Londoners claimed a 2-0 win against Fulham last week and are hopeful to extend their winning run when they face Kompany’s Burnley later today. The Clarets have struggled following their return to the top flight and have picked up just four points from their opening seven matches. Having secured their first win against Luton Town last weekend, Burnley will go into the game with confidence.

The former Manchester City skipper hopes Chelsea make the most of their heavy spending and has backed their massive recruitment expenditure. After being questioned about Chelsea’s expenditure (h/t Football.London), he said:

“I have been part of an environment where, as a player, money could be spent. Now I am part of an environment where we are far from being the biggest spenders. I don’t have a single complaint about it. They have fantastic players. The exciting part for us is that we can get so much better from our own resources.”

The Belgian hero is obviously accustomed to such extravagant spending because he previously played for a team that routinely broke transfer records. As a result, he is used to watching some of the top clubs spend lavishly throughout transfer windows.

Chelsea have historically been a team that would threw money at their problems and things have changed little under Todd Boehly. However, the American appears keen to build a dynasty given his keenness to bring in young players over more stablished superstars.

Burnley were impressive and were promoted to the Premier League in Kompany’s first season as their head coach. But things haven’t gone as planned in the English top division, and hopefully, Pochettino’s team will take advantage of it and continue their rise up the table.
