Cole Palmer says he liked the Chelsea project before joining them from Manchester City
Cole Palmer has revealed the Chelsea project was the key factor that convinced him to join the Blues during the deadline of the summer transfer window from rivals Manchester City.
It was understood that Palmer would be guaranteed more game time following the exit of Riyad Mahrez. But that wasn’t the case, and the forward decided to move elsewhere where he could continue his development.
Chelsea came knocking, and the 21-year-old agreed to join the Blues. It took them no time to reach an agreement with Manchester City for a fee in the region of £40 million.
Like everyone else, Palmer has been given a long-term contract; he signed a seven-year deal. The former Manchester City player also earned his Chelsea debut in a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Palmer intends on playing frequently so he can keep up his form because Chelsea will rely on him. The reason the forward chose to sign with the West Londoners was because of their project, as he told the Daily Mail, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“Chelsea explained the project; I liked the project. I feel like I can have an impact there.”
Chelsea’s project is long-term; once things begin to unfold and the players start to gel, it will undoubtedly take some time before it starts to pay off. Palmer is aware that our project has lofty goals and that, with the help of the players and manager, we can compete for all titles once all the necessary steps are taken. We just need to have patience, after all every manager and player needs time to master a particular talent.
