Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea are still interested in signing Gabriel Moscardo
Fabrizio Romano has informed Chelsea fans that there hasn’t been further development in the club’s quest to sign talented defensive midfielder Gabriel Moscardo.
The Blues’ previous bid of €21 million (no add-ons) was rejected by the Corinthians. Barcelona have also joined Chelsea in pursuit of the 17-year-old, and as the time passes there will be more competition Chelsea will face for his acquisition.
Chelsea have been active in signing top young talents since the change in ownership, and certainly, the 17-year-old has been labelled as a top prodigy. However, after their first offer was denied, the Blues will need to make an even stronger bid to persuade the Brazilian club to part with the midfielder.
Romano claims there hasn’t been enough development since Chelsea’s last bid was rejected, as he wrote in today’s Caught Offside column on Substack:
“It’s true that there is interest from Chelsea, but this is not particularly new information, and there have not been any recent developments on this saga, as far as I understand, despite what has been claimed elsewhere.
“I mentioned in August that Chelsea had a €21 million bid (no add-ons) rejected in the last week of the transfer window. At the moment, nothing else has happened since that moment. Let’s see if other clubs will join the race for this top talent, but the last Chelsea move was ten days ago.”
If Chelsea are truly interested in signing the midfielder, they will need to evaluate alternative options before making another offer. He is a defensive midfielder playing beyond his years, and at the age of just 17, he has surpassed expectations.
It also aligns with our present strategy of focussing on signing young players and building for the long term. Currently, there isn’t any need for a new defensive midfielder and given Barcelona’s interest and the €25million price tag for the teenager, Chelsea have a couple of things that may turn them off regarding this potential transfer.

Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Ezno Fernandez can play in that position. There are also Andrey Santos and Conor Gallagher who can play centrally. It would make more sense to sign some players for the present because we have a lot of talent for the future already.
