Chelsea eye €60m January solution for their goalscoring problems.

Chelsea are preparing a €60m January transfer bid for Jonathan David

According to Fichajes, Premier League giants Chelsea are eyeing Canadian international Jonathan David in the January transfer window as they seek to address their goalscoring woes.

Despite bringing in several players over the last few transfer windows, Chelsea still lack a reliable goal scorer. Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja are both promising but are yet to reaffirm themselves as infallible goal getters. We need a more experienced player who can lead the line and also hopefully guide the youngsters’ development.

The January transfer window provides the next opportunity for the Blues to add to their roster. Given their difficult start to the 2023-24 campaign, it would be suicidal to ignore making key additions at the risk of writing another season off.

One player who has bene on the club’s radar for a while now is Jonathan David. The 23-year-old arrived in Europe in 2018, making a name for himself at Gent before moving to LOSC Lille in 2020. He has since made 142 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 61 goals and assisting another ten.

The Les Dogues star enjoyed a prolific 2022-23 campaign, scoring 24 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances. It was a tally bettered by only Kylian Mbappe and Alexandre Lacazette. David has also started the current campaign strongly, netting twice in four league matches so far.

Lille are aware of growing interest in their star man and are open to offers. With his contract expiring in 2025, the upcoming two windows offer them the best opportunity to secure top dollar.

This is good news for us who are ready to splash out €60m for him in January. The Blues are confident that the offer should be enough for them to land their man. A proven attacker, David would certainly be an excellent addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s roster.

A versatile player full of pace and power, David is also a prolific goalscorer capable of leading the line on his own. The sooner the Blues can bring him in the January window, the higher our chances of ending the campaign on a high.
