Levi Colwill says Adam Lallana convinced him to extend his contract at Chelsea
Chelsea centre-back Levi Colwill explained how Adam Lallana helped persuade him to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea fans will certainly be thankful for how the former Liverpool forward helped Colwill remain at West London despite interest from several clubs.
The England international spent the entire season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, where his remarkable development satisfied Chelsea to call him back to the club. He appears to have found favour under Mauricio Pochetti o and is today a regular starter at the Bridge.
However, Brighton were interested in keeping the defender, and Liverpool also emerged as a new candidate. But Chelsea held firm that the 20-year-old is not for sale and in the end, got their way. Hopefully, he will repay our faith in the years to come.
Colwill eventually extended his contract at Chelsea, which will keep him at the club until 2029, (h/t Mirror) and the centre-back has told the reason why he was advised to prolong his contract:
“I have had conversations with Adam. And he told me about how much of a good guy he (Pochettino) was, and he thinks he is a really good manager, and I took that on board when I was making my decision. When I finally met him (Pochettino), I realised everything Adam said was true.”
Lallana played for Pochettino at Southampton, where he developed into a star and eventually joined Liverpool, so he is aware of how good he is at developing young players. But Colwill doesn’t need any of that; following his swift rise at Brighton, he displayed remarkable maturity, although there is still opportunity for development under the former Espanyol manager.

The 20-year-old has already appeared in all four Premier League games, which is enough to clarify how vital he is for the team and how he will work with other defenders to form a solid defence. Colwill is one of the best centre-backs in the league. If he continues his positive development, he will eventually become one of the club’s top defenders, like John Terry.
