Conor Gallagher plays down any speculation of leaving Chelsea this summer
Conor Gallagher has remarked that he wants to remain at Chelsea after the midfielder and fight for his place was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
West Ham United were also keen on signing the 24-year-old but had their £40 million offer dismissed by the Blues, while Spurs are considering making a last offer as the summer window nears its conclusion.
It is also understood that the West Londoners will allow Gallagher to leave the club for £45 million, but agreeing personal terms could be challenging.
The midfielder wore the captain’s band in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup first round. The goals from Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke were enough to see off the opposition.
But Gallagher has confirmed he doesn’t wish to leave Chelsea and is ready to fight for his spot this season, (h/t Metro) as he told the media after the game:
‘’I don’t want to stop; I want to keep improving and keep helping the club. It was a great moment tonight [captaining the team], and hopefully many more.”
‘’Everyone’s playing well; obviously a lot of top midfielders [have joined the club], but I’m just playing with quite a lot of confidence at the moment; I feel fit and strong.”
Gallagher has shown he really wants to show his worth, and against Wimbledon, he was sensational and exhibited why he should remain at the club. We certainly need a midfielder who can press relentlessly and win possession back, and this role suits Gallagher. His presence also adds depth to our midfield.

However, if a nice offer comes in, there is nothing we can do but sell him. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham’s impromptu move will be persuasive enough to trade the England international.
