Mauricio Pochettino lauds Chelsea star Raheem Sterling for match winning performance vs Luton Town
Mauricio Pochettino was impressed by Raheem Sterling, who has been the Chelsea protagonist of the game as he registered a brace and an assist in their 3-0 win over Luton Town.
This was Chelsea’s first win of the season following a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the season’s opener and a 3-1 defeat to West Ham United last weekend. Hopefully, it will now give us momentum that can be carried over to the coming clashes.
Sterling started this season on the back of a poor 2022/23 campaign in which the former Manchester City star spent the majority of the time on the sidelines and scored only eight goals in 38 games across all competitions. It was a poor return from a player who was among the best while at The Etihad.
But the 28-year-old has begun his new season on a high, as he already has two goals to his name in three games and will hope to continue his fine form. His rediscovering the goalscoring touch is good news for Pochettino and Co.
The Blues’ boss delighted by the English forward’s outing against Luton, and after the game, he was full of praise for him, (h/t Daily Mail) saying:
‘’He deserves full credit for his performance. I’m so pleased for him because he told me that it was a difficult season for him last season, and I’m very pleased when the player is happy and when an offensive player can score and assist; for us, it’s the best feeling.’’
Sterling has been terrific for us over the past three games, and his performance was sufficient for Pochettino to choose him on a regular basis. Sterling is one of the very few seasoned players who can have an impact on the younger players at Stamford Bridge. To build the squad, we must also strive to sign players with more experience and can walk the talk..
