Chelsea have agreed terms with Southampton to sign Liverpool target Romeo Lavia

Romeo Lavia felt disappointed with Liverpool as he felt he was their second choice when the Reds opted to go for Moises Caicedo, which saw him choose Chelsea over a move to Anfield.

According to the Guardian, (h/t Mirror) Lavia’s camp was disappointed with Liverpool’s approach towards the 19-year-old signing, who is now set to join Chelsea. Liverpool’s diligence to obtain Caicedo happened by surprise because they had been after the 19-year-old for a long time, which made Lavia feel like their second choice.

Unlike Lavia, the Ecuadorian midfielder had his decision already made; he wanted to join only the West Londoners, despite Liverpool breaking the British transfer record.

The West Londoners reached an agreement with Southampton for a fee of £53 million plus £5 million in add-ons and are set to become Chelsea’s second midfielder signing after Moises Caicedo.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have now missed out on the acquisition of Lavia and Caicedo and will now have to look elsewhere to reinforce their defensive midfield. Jurgen Klopp’s side made three attempts to sign the former Manchester City midfielder but to no avail. Chelsea certainly are formidable opponents on and off the field.

Although we had a long-standing interest in Lavia, we decided to wait as we wanted to make a proposal because Caicedo was our top target. However, it appears that the Reds’ decision to pursue Caicedo was influenced by Chelsea’s bid for the Southampton midfielder. It is now somewhat perplexing to see them sign neither of them. Not that we are complaining.

We now have our top two midfielders, and they will improve our midfield to a great extent. Enzo Fernandez will also benefit a lot from their signing, as he will now be at his full capacity to operate from the middle of the pitch.
