Cesare Casadei happy to join Leicester City on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea
Championship side Leicester City have secured the signing of young Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei on a season-long loan deal.
Casadei, who was signed by the Blues for a deal worth around £12m plus add-ons from Inter Milan last summer, did not make a senior appearance here last season.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Reading and did well. He had an exceptional U20 World Cup in Argentina where he single-handedly led Italy to the final before losing to Uruguay.
Here’s what Casadei said to the media team at Leicester upon arriving at the King Power Stadium for the duration of this season (h/t Leicester City website):
“I feel really good. I’m really happy to be here, I’m excited and I can’t wait to get started. Obviously, Leicester is a big team so I’m here to win and to do as well as possible to fight and to work hard for this team.”
Leicester must be aiming to get straight back to the Premier League at the end of this season. If Casadei helps them in achieving that target, his stock in English football would take a considerable rise.
The young Italian is a box-to-box midfielder who can score goals and create chances along with doing the dirty work off the ball. He is what you call an all-action midfield player.
The 21-year-old is tall, physically strong and technically very good to potentially dominate games in the Championship. We won’t be surprised if he finds the games in that division a bit too easy.
With Chelsea signing Moises Caicedo and closing in on Romeo Lavia, Casadei should know that only an exceptional loan spell would open a place for him in this new Blues midfield.

At this stage of his career, a move to a club like Leicester is ideal for him. Let’s hope it works out that way on the field too. Mauricio Pochettino and his staff would be keeping a close eye.
