Tottenham Hotspur contact Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku
Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have contacted Chelsea to sound out their interest in acquiring out-of-favour star Romelu Lukaku following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, (h/t Express), Spurs are in negotiations with Chelsea to sign their Belgian striker, who is not in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for this season. Lukaku has had enough opportunities but has struggled to make an impact in Blue in two different stints.
The former Inter Milan striker is eager to depart Chelsea and has already made efforts to do so. However with Inter walking away, the 30-year-old is no closer to making his west London exit. The Belgian striker was in talks with Juventus and also agreed a three-year deal, but the Blues’ stalling of negotiations with the Old Lady has left the striker with no options.
Chelsea and Juventus were in talks for a player-plus-cash deal to acquire Dusan Vlahovic, but Pochettino is unconvinced by the Serbian’s qualities. It makes little sense for us to rid ourselves of Lukaku only to bring another striker that the manager does not want.
Now Tottenham have joined the race to sign the 30-year-old, which could turn the tide in our favour. Hopefully, it will also see Juventus take stock of the situation and hopefully ramp up their efforts to land Lukaku. As long as we get the asking price, it matters little who we sell to.
Once Lukaku is sold, we will need to bring in another striker. Nicolas Jackson is young and cannot be expected to lead the line over the course of a season. With just weeks left, time is running out for us to make our move.
Chelsea are at a point where they are willing to sell him to any side as long as they receive good money from his departure, and Spurs could make a decent offer since Kane departed. The North Londoners will need a prolific striker despite having Richarlison. With Juventus, the talks have been halted, and it seems like there is no sign of a deal going through as long as Vlahovic is in the fray.

Lukaku has been a liability for us despite significant investment and trust put in him. Enough is enough and Chelsea are best advised to rake in whatever they can for the Belgian and cut their losses.
