Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea set to hold talks Dusan Vlahovic and Romelu Lukaku swap deal
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have booked a new round of talks with Juventus as they prepare to discuss a Dusan Vlahovic and Romelu Lukaku swap deal with the Serie A club.
The Serie A club is open to selling the Serbian striker in a swap deal where they get Lukaku and €40 million in cash for Vlahovic. Lukaku has apparently agreed to a three-year deal to sign for the Serie A club, while Vlahovic would prefer to remain at Juventus.
The Belgian striker, 30, wants to compete in Europe, but Chelsea have been trying to get rid of him and even pressured him into joining a club in Saudi Arabia. It seems we are desperate to offload him as soon as possible and sell him to the highest bidder.
Lukaku, who returned from a season-long loan spell with Inter Milan, wanted to join I Nerazzurri on a permanent move, but his negotiations with Juventus have seen the Nerazzurri drop out of the race.
Now transfer specialist Romano has given a fresh update on the Vlahovic and Lukaku swap deal in his latest column. Speaking to an exclusive column for CaughtOffside, Romano said:
“There will be a new round of talks between Chelsea and Juventus over a Dusan Vlahovic and Romelu Lukaku swap deal soon. The next meeting has already been booked but will be done through intermediaries, who will talk to both sides of the deal. In addition to Lukaku, Juve want €40m in order to part ways with Vlahovic and this will be discussed in the near future.
“Chelsea are still discussing internally whether they want to make the deal happen, and it will come down to Mauricio Pochettino, who is a key player in this game. The Chelsea manager’s answer will determine whether the deal goes further.”
The final decision will mostly be up to Pochettino, and in all honesty, adding Vlahovic shouldn’t be a concern because he is capable of scoring goals, is still a young player, and will inevitably get more proficient with time under the Argentine coach, who has a history of fostering talented youngsters.
It will also allow us to get rid of Lukaku and allow both the club and the player to move on. At Chelsea, Vlahovic won’t have the UEFA Champions League next season but he wouldn’t have had that at Juventus either.

This is the right profile of a player to sign as well. The Serbian international is young but not too young and inexperienced to make him a dodgy acquisition. So far, we have signed rather unknown players, and that can often be a risky road to go down upon. With Vlahovic, there is a sort of safety.
