An unnamed club have made a bid to sign Chelsea target Moises Caicedo
According to Andy Taylor for The Athletic (subscription required), Chelsea face competition as an unnamed club has made a bid to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this summer.
A bid from that club is set to be more than what Chelsea recently offered to sign the Ecuador international. Brighton rejected the Blues’ £80m offer a few days ago.
The Seagulls won’t budge on their asking price for the 21-year-old. They have kept Arsenal’s move to sign Declan Rice for £105m as the reference point for this transfer window.
It is also revealed that should Chelsea find it continually tough to crack a deal for Caicedo, they might start to look at alternatives. Liverpool target Romeo Lavia is on the list. Southampton rejected the second Liverpool bid worth £41m for the Belgian international in the last couple of days.
With the new season 10 days away, it is high time the Blues start to accelerate the process of signing a midfielder. They are short in that department going into the first game against Liverpool.
Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher are the only senior central midfielders in the squad at the moment. Mauricio Pochettino may like to add another body to that position before next weekend.
The thing with Caicedo is that he is such a good player that it is worth taking time to negotiate a deal to sign him. However, a lot of time has surpassed with nothing progressive happening on that front.

Can Chelsea be flexible and continue their pursuit of the Ecuadorian but make a quick bid for someone like Lavia to test Southampton’s waters? It is possible. If the latter goes to Anfield, try and identify another alternative for whom a deal is plausible.
