Chelsea want to sign Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez to add to the strength in depth
As per Daily Mail, Chelsea are exploring a deal to sign out-of-favour Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez to add strength in depth in the goalkeeping department this summer.
Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to add competition to take the number one spot in the team. As of now, Kepa Arrizabalaga has the nod after the permanent departure of Edouard Mendy this summer.
Marcus Bettinelli is the backup option while the third choice Gabriel Slonina is on his way to play for Belgian side KAS Eupen on a season-long loan deal. It means that the club are looking to sign Sanchez to keep Kepa on his toes because the Spaniard has not shown to be consistent with his performances in a Chelsea jersey.
The advantage of potentially signing Sanchez would be that he counts as a home-grown player because he was at the Brighton Academy since the age of 15 before playing for them at the top level. The Spain international fell out of favour with Roberto De Zerbi last season and was eventually dropped from the squad.
So, barring a stunning U-turn, the 25-year-old would be available for a transfer this summer. Manchester United wanted to sign him earlier in the window but they recently signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
Sanchez is a modern-day goalkeeper of some degree. He is good at passing from the back with or without pressure, is aerially good at dominating his area when crosses or corner kicks come and is a good shot-stopper.

It won’t be a bad idea to sign him and tell Kepa that he is not undroppable from the side. The latter has previous experience of playing badly and getting dropped at this club. This signing may sharpen his focus to do well.
