Paris Saint-Germain are on course to finish Ousmane Dembele’s shock move amid Chelsea interest
According to ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain are set to finalise the signing of Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele. The Ligue 1 heavyweights have been interested in signing Dembele for a long time.
It is also understood that Dembele also agreed to a five-year contract with PSG. The French international has a €50 million ($55 million) release clause in his Barcelona contract, which will further increase to €100 million by August 1.
However, Dembele is currently in negotiations for his contract renewal at Barcelona, but the French winners are optimistic that he is leaning towards their project.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also remained interested in signing the 26-year-old, who revived his career under Xavi Hernandez and finished last season with seven assists and five goals in 25 matches.
PSG have also joined the race, and they look like clear favourites to land the former Borussia Dortmund star despite Xavi wanting to keep Dembele at Barcelona.
The Blues also need an experienced player on the right wing, as they only have Noni Madueke for next season, while Hakim Ziyech’s future remains uncertain. As talented Madueke is, he isn’t experienced at the very top level like Dembele is.
Our prospects of obtaining the Frenchman appear remote. However, if we do make an attempt at his acquisition, we will have a great player on our plate. A dynamic forward who is capable of playing on the right and left wings, Dembele is an exceptional dribbler who can play with both his feet and create and finish off chances with aplomb..
He is injury prone, however, as evidenced by his spell at Spotify Camp Nou. But given the amount we have spent on some of the rather unproven youngsters in recent windows, €50m for Dembele honestly seems like a bargain. A player of that quality isn’t available that often for this price.

But one can understand if PSG succeed here. They are playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, need a replacement for Lionel Messi, and offer Dembele a route back to his homeland.
