Montpellier reject £24 million offer from Chelsea for Elye Wahi
Chelsea have had a £24 million offer to acquire the services of Elye Wahi in the ongoing transfer window rejected by Montpellier, according to the Evening Standard.
The Blues are interested in signing the French national from the Ligue 1 outfit. To that end, the 20-year-old is also keen on making his way to the Stamford Bridge side.
If the West London club were to come to an agreement for Wahi, he would likely make his way to partner club Strasbourg first. The Stade de la Meinau were recently purchased by the BlueCo group.
Patrick Vieira was appointed the Alsace-based club’s new manager this summer. They have already agreed to sign Angelo Gabriel on a temporary move from Chelsea after the pre-season tour in the United States.
Wahi is an emerging talent in France. The 20-year-old established himself as a starter in the previous campaign and was a key player for the Ligue 1 outfit in last season as well.
In the 2022/23 term, the youngster caught a lot of people’s attention. The striker made 33 league appearances for La Paillade, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists.
Despite Wahi’s impressive numbers last season, Chelsea feel the youngster still needs time to be ready to play for the club. Thus, the Blues are looking to stock Strasbourg with some young talent and see how they develop.
At the moment, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are the two options Mauricio Pochettino has heavily relied upon to play in the number nine position during pre-season. Armando Broja is also set to return from his injury soon.
