Frank Lampard tells Callum Hudson-Odoi that hard work is the only mantra
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has informed Callum Hudson-Odoi what he needs to do to get back into the team.
The Blues boss’ simple yet sage advice is for his 19-year-old prospect to keep working hard. Lampard clearly believes there is no shortcut to success and has not held back against giving the youngster some sound advice.
Hudson-Odoi has made just one appearance for the club since football returned last month.
“He needs to work hard daily in training and when he gets his opportunities really show input in games.”
With both Christian Pulisic and Willian ahead of him in the pecking order, he cannot afford to slack off. The duo has proved irreplaceable for the club since the restart. Given their high quality of performance, Hudson-Odoi currently has his work cut in replacing them.
“We’re seeing what Christian Pulisic and Willian are doing. Callum needs to show something similar.”
Having come up through the Chelsea youth system, Hudson-Odoi made his senior bow in the 2017-18 season. He has since amassed 54 appearances, scoring 8 goals and 10 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His numbers of 3 goals and 5 assists is not as good as his competitors this season. Apart from the numbers, his ability to become a thorn in the opposition defence has not been achieved consistently.
Lampard has shown he is willing to play youngsters. He has, however, refused to take accept anything but the best. A key example of it is him pulling out three players at half-time against Leicester City.
The Blues legend is a no-nonsense manager who is willing to put faith in his players. But he is no fool and neither should Hudson-Odoi look for a free ride. The English international will do well to pay heed to the advice of his manager.
