Mason Burstow linked with Chelsea exit after impressing Mauricio Pochettino
Young Chelsea forward Mason Burstow is apparently attracting significant interest from teams ahead of the new season.
According to the Evening Standard, the 19-year-old centre-forward is wanted by clubs in England and in Europe on a loan deal or a permanent move. But he has put his future on hold for the time being.
Burstow has travelled with the Blues’ squad for their pre-season tour of the USA. A muscle issue meant he missed our 5-0 drubbing of Wrexham earlier this week in North Carolina but he could play against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League Summer Series tomorrow.
Apparently, the teenager has ‘impressed’ Mauricio Pochettino. And that is enough for us to think that Chelsea must not let him leave permanently just yet.
No need to sell
He was signed in January 2022 from Charlton Athletic before being allowed to join the Addicks for the following six months. He went on to score 11 times for Chelsea’s U21 team last season — by no means a bad return.
It is important that we give him plenty of minutes in the upcoming pre-season games. It would be hard for him to prove himself as a player capable of being a first-team starter in such a short time.
But he could convince Poch to make him a backup for Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, or whichever No. 9 we sign next. At his age, that in itself would be a big achievement.

And if nothing of that sort happens right now, we can always use these remaining games as opportunities for young players to give their best auditions to potential suitors who can take them on loan and give them ample first-team opportunities. No harm in that.
