Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester City have agreed to sign Chelsea target Josko Gvardiol
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Premier League champions Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig despite interest from hosts of European clubs including Chelsea.
He has also confirmed that the Croatian international has also completed the first part of his medical on Wednesday, and the deal is on the verge of being completed. It represents a significant addition to a side that won the treble just last season.
His signing will solidify Manchester City’s defence substantially given they already have the likes of Ruben Dias, John Stones Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake. The 21-year-old’s versatility at the back will take the club to the next level and remind us of what we have missed out on.
Chelsea were also keen on signing the Croatian and the centre-back and have kept tabs on him since his spell at Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb. Unfortunately, it has all come to nought now.
But the transfer never happened, and the 21-year-old ended up signing a five-year deal with a major rival. Having to watch him impress in a light blue jersey will certainly hurt but that is the reality we face in the years to come.
The Blues have decent depth in their defence with the likes of Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, and Trevoh Chalobah. Unfortunately, Wesley Fofana could miss the season after rupturing his ACL and the west Londoners could do with another addition to the defensive roster.
At 21, Gvardiol has the makings of a superstar and could potentially transform the City defence. His performance at the 2022 World Cup was sufficient to demonstrate his talents which will now be elevated by working with Pep Guardiola.

Thankfully we have our own wonderkid in Levi Colwill. The youngster played a key role in England’s success in the Under 21 European Championship. Hopefully, he will commit his future to the Blues and develop into the world-beater we know he is capable of.
