Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is a subject of interest for London rivals Tottenham Hotspur
As per Football Transfers (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella in this transfer window.
Spurs want to replace Ivan Perisic in the squad after the Croatian is likely to leave north London after only one season there following a move from Inter Milan last summer.
Chelsea, who spent more than £60m to sign Cucurella from Brighton 12 months ago, are eager to offload the player in this window. The Spaniard had an underwhelming first at the club, to say the least.
A couple of days ago, it was revealed that the 24-year-old wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea have looked at potential buyers from Saudi Arabia. There was an interest from Atletico Madrid which was quashed by Cucurella’s agent as a false rumour.
The former Brighton defender, who can play as a left-sided centre-back in a three or a left-back in a four, was all over the place in a blue shirt last season. He struggled defensively and was even booed by home fans at times.
Having spent a lot of money on him a year ago, it does seem odd that they want to let go of the player after just a campaign. But, that’s how modern football works apparently. Ruthless!
For once, selling a player to Tottenham won’t hurt too as Cucurella didn’t have much impact here. He can go there and hopefully have a good career except when playing against Chelsea.

The fee would be important in this potential deal because although it would be unrealistic to ask Spurs to pay for the Spaniard what Chelsea did last year, he is still worth a good percentage of that.
