Frank Lampard pleased after Watford victory takes Chelsea up to fourth
Chelsea returned to winning ways with a comprehensive 3-0 win over strugglers Watford.
The three points were enough to see us return to fourth place after being dislodged by Manchester United for a few hours. Goals from Oliver Giroud, Willian, and Ross Barkley ensured that the Blues met the challenge thrown down by United head-on.
It represents a remarkable response after the humiliating loss against West Ham United. The results threatened to adversely impact our hold on the fourth spot.
According to the Daily Star, Frank Lampard was full of praise for his team who showed immense maturity to move on from the Hammers horrorshow.
“Today was a very comfortable professional job and that’s what we’re going to have to continue to do.”
The Blues could have moved to third had they won against West Ham. Thankfully, we have now moved on from the defeat. Lampard admits that his team did not react well to the opportunity presented by Leicester’s slip up.
“Against West Ham, we had the pressure of being able to go third and didn’t react in a positive way.”
With Manchester United now blowing teams off, Chelsea cannot afford to drop any more points and let the Red Devils usurp us.
United too are a team on the rise under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Having already stolen a march on our rivals with our transfer dealings, we can ill afford to lose out on a Champions League spot.
With them breathing down our neck, Lampard realizes that we cannot afford any more slip-ups.
“It’s a similar pressure from now on – whether playing first or last, you’re aware of the teams around you.”
