Union Berlin want to bring Christian Pulisic back to the Bundesliga amidst the player links with AC Milan
As per German outlet Berliner Kurier (h/t Football.London), Union Berlin want to sign Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic despite the USA star being linked with Serie A side AC Milan.
The Athletic (subscription required) has revealed that although Milan have made a €14m bid to sign Pulisic, Chelsea want more than that. This could possibly keep Berlin in the game. Lyon are rivalling the Italian club by making a €25m bid. Let’s see if the Blues accept the latter.
The Bundesliga side will have to navigate Champions League football for the first time in their history next season. Hence, they are looking to bolster their squad in the summer which can help them do well in all competitions.
Regardless, gunning to sign a player who has represented Dortmund and Chelsea is a brave move from them. It remains to be seen what Pulisic thinks of it, especially considering Union Berlin’s success may not last.
Pulisic has only one year left in his contract at Stamford Bridge. His underwhelming time at Chelsea is set to end this summer, regardless of which club signs him in the coming days.
The USMNT international arrived in London from Borussia Dortmund four years ago. Although he has had a few decent moments in a Chelsea shirt, there hasn’t been enough of that in truth.
The thing to note is that he is still 24 years old. Hence, despite a rough time as a player at Chelsea, Pulisic has time in his career to resurrect his reputation in the European circuit, something that was gained when he was doing well for Dortmund.
Having seen what Milan’s first offer was to the Blues, it is only right that the latter value the player more than that irrespective of his current contract situation. Lyon’s offer might be close to what they want actually.
