Levi Colwill is offered a new contract by Chelsea but the defender wants to have talks with Mauricio Pochettino
As per Evening Standard, Chelsea have offered a new deal to defender Levi Colwill but the player wants to have talks about his future with Mauricio Pochettino.
It is revealed that the Blues have offered a long-term contract to the Englishman, but he wants clarity on his role in the squad before making a decision to sign that thing or not.
Pochettino begins work as a Chelsea boss on Monday. The Argentine admires Colwill and wants the player to stay. But, the latter does not want to operate a backup with the squad stocked with top-class centre-backs already.
Among all the players who could play ahead of the 20-year-old at Stamford Bridge, Benoit Badiashile is a player similar in profile. Although the Frenchman is currently injured, he won’t be like that forever, isn’t he?
Moreover, with no European football for Chelsea next season, Pochettino might not be wanting to rotate his playing XI too much between the league games. Hence, he won’t be needing a deep squad to navigate a campaign that has a minimum of six fewer games compared to a normal one.
Manchester City and Liverpool are interested in signing Colwill. Now, while Chelsea have made it clear that the Englishman is not available for sale at any price, he may not want to stay here keeping the potentiality of him not playing much as a strong reason.
The 20-year-old is a fantastic young left-footed centre-back. He had an exceptional loan spell at Brighton last time around. Pochettino should do all he can to convince the player to stick around here.
