Chelsea are keen to replace Manchester United-bound Mason Mount with Gabri Veiga
According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea are ready to make their move for Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Blues have enjoyed a fire sale of late, selling several players, especially in the midfield. Kai Havertz, N’Golo Kante, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Mateo Kovacic have all left the club in recent weeks. An agreement for Mason Mount was reached yesterday with Manchester United and the Englishman could be the next one out of the door.
With Conor Gallagher also potentially set to leave, the Blues find themselves short of options in central midfield. The attention is sure to shift to bringing in reinforcements with Veiga a major target.
The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Celta, making his senior bow in 2020. He has since made 64 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring ten goals and assisting one more. He has a £34.6m release clause in his contract and is well worth the risk.
An attacking midfielder who can play in central midfield, Veiga is seen as a rising star in the Spanish top flight. A solid dribbler with a mean eye for goal, he is more or less deadly in the final third. A versatile player, he has the traits needed to develop into a dangerous attacker in the years to come. With Chelsea now set to make their move, there is optimism that his best years will come in Blue.
Veiga is still rough around the edges and has some ways to go before fulfilling his potential. Mauricio Pochettino has a way of helping talent bloom and has a track record of doing just that. He helped Philippe Coutinho find his feet while at Espanyol before aiding Dele Alli’s development at Tottenham Hotspur.
Surely the Argentine can be the one to make Veiga’s talent bloom. The youngster is also attracting attention from Liverpool but the Reds are yet to make their move. Surely, we can steal a march in the transfer race if we meet the player’s release clause.

Veiga is a bonafide star in the making and we will do well to secure his signature on the first given opportunity. The more we wait, the more we risk other teams entering the fray for the young Spaniard.
