Kovacic has been an integral member of the team ever since he moved to Stamford Bridge back in 2018. Having initially arrived on loan, the midfielder’s transfer was made permanent.
The Croatian has continued to impress this season and unquestionably has been one of our better performers under Frank Lampard. Till date, the 26-year-old has featured 41 times across all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting three more.
However, the midfielder picked up an injury in our game against West Ham United last time out due to which he was subbed off. And now, Lampard has confirmed that the midfielder will not be facing Watford this weekend and may miss the game after that as well.
“Kovacic is going to be out of this game. He hurt his Achilles during the West Ham game and will miss this one, possibly the next one after that but hopefully it won’t be too long after that.”
This will come as a blow for the team, given how important Kovacic has been. Nevertheless, we have plenty of options in the midfield department who can step up and do the job in his absence.
In addition, Lampard also confirmed that Fikayo Tomori will miss out again as he continues his recovery from an injury.
“Fikayo is still not fit. He’s hopefully going to be training with us somewhere through next week. He’s doing a lot of work but in terms of the last bit to get him on the training pitch, it’s been tough.”
