Mason Mount will not pen Chelsea extension despite two failed Manchester United offers
The agent of Mason Mount has told Chelsea they are not willing to extend the midfielder’s contract after Chelsea turned down a second transfer bid from Manchester United.
Transfer Journalist Fabrizio Romano, (h/t Express) has claimed that Mount’s representative has already affirmed to the Blues that they will not extend his contract following West London’s rejection of United’s latest £50 million proposal.
The English international is a target for United after Chelsea and Mount failed to agree to extend the midfielder’s contract. So far, the Red Devils have failed with two bids for the midfielder’s services.
Nevertheless, Manchester United are anticipated to make a third offer for the 24-year-old, as they now prioritise Mount’s acquisition despite Chelsea’s high valuation for the midfielder.
The Cobham graduate appeared to be saying goodbye to Chelsea’s fans in their 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge. It is understood that the Blues were unwilling to provide high wages, which has damaged the relationship between the club and the midfielder.
This saw Mount appoint new agent Wasserman’s Neil Fewings who is now in talks with Manchester United to complete his move despite Chelsea’s high valuation of the 24-year-old. Mount also endured a poor season after spending the campaign on the sidelines with an ankle injury and an abdominal problem that saw him undergo surgery.
Asking him to extend his contract is now pointless because it appears that he has already made up his mind and wants out. The best we can now do is get top dollar from interested buyers.
His departure won’t be the end of the world and the onus will be on Chelsea to replace him. With us risking losing him for a free in 2024, there is no better time than now to sell him.
