Ligue 1 club confirm forgotten Chelsea mean will return to Stamford Bridge from loan spell

Le Havre failed to sign Chelsea star Malang Sarr on deadline day.

Loan Watch: AS Monaco confirm Malang Sarr return to Chelsea after loan spell

AS Monaco have confirmed that Malang Sarr will return to Chelsea this summer at the end of his loan spell with the Ligue 1 side.

The Blues signed Sarr from OGC Nice in the summer of 2020. Since then, he has spent two seasons out on loan – first at FC Porto, and most recently, with Monaco.

Sarr has only 21 senior appearances for Chelsea to his name so far. Blues fans can’t be blamed if they’ve forgotten that the Frenchman is still on their books.

The Monegasques signed him on a season-long loan deal last summer with an option to make the deal permanent for £10million. But they will not retain him beyond the summer.

Sarr back at Chelsea

The club’s official Twitter account has confirmed that Sarr will return to Chelsea at the end of his loan deal. He still has two years left on his contract with the Blues.

A decision now has to be taken when it comes to his long-term future. Sarr has often looked unpolished as a centre-back, failing to develop at the rate people expected him to.

He doesn’t give out the same level of assurance at the back that you would have gotten from Antonio Rudiger or Wesley Fofana, for example. It would be a delight if Mauricio Pochettino rekindles his career, but it seems like a long shot.

More Chelsea News:

Sarr didn’t enjoy a lot of playing time in France either, playing just 791 minutes across 13 Ligue 1 games for them. He is now 24 years old and this summer seems very crucial for the player’s future.
