Victor Osimhen reveals Napoli president will make decision on his future amid Chelsea links
Chelsea target Victor Osimhen has claimed his future decision lies in Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis’s hands this summer.
The 24-year-old has drawn interest from elite clubs and may leave the reigning Serie A champions in the summer transfer window. The Nigerian forward had a breakthrough season in 2022–23, playing 39 games and scoring 31 goals while dishing out an additional five assists.
He is a bonafide hero in the city of Naples. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he wants to stay there among people who love him.
However, a lot of European clubs are interested in signing him, and as his popularity has increased, Napoli have set a price tag of €150 million (£129 million) on him.
The 24-year-old also spoke candidly about his future after helping Napoli win the Scudetto as he told DAZN, (h/t Football.London)
“I just want to enjoy this incredible title. I can’t wait to return to Napoli and hug the fans. I’m so happy for them. I don’t know; the president has to decide that. I love the people of Napoli; they have shown me so much love. For me, I don’t mind; the president decides, and I will just go with the flow.”
If we truly want a good striker, we should take a chance and sign Osimhen. He possesses all the traits of an ideal number nine, and given that he is only 24 years old, it is reasonable to assume that he will get better with time.
Mauricio Pochettino, who helped Harry Kane develop into a tremendous striker in Europe, could certainly do the same with the Nigerian striker. He won’t be cheap but he could be our safest bet to have a truly world-class No. 9 for years to come.
There will also be competition from other clubs, which is only reasonable. He is a quality player who would want to play in the biggest competitions in the world – including the UEFA Champions League, which we haven’t qualified for this time around.
