Chelsea hopeful of signing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia with an input from Eden Hazard
As per Express Sports, Chelsea remain hopeful and will push to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia after important input from Eden Hazard.
The Blues have the young Belgian star as one of their key transfer targets as we head into the summer transfer window. New boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign Lavia and Moises Caicedo before the start of next season.
The report also reveals that Lavia had spoken to the former Chelsea legend Hazard before the World Cup. The latter encouraged the former to not hesitate to make a move to Stamford Bridge if an opportunity arises.
Lavia although was part of the Southampton that got relegated from the Premier League, was one of their best outfield players. The Belgian is not only good on the ball, but he reads the game well, can cover a lot of ground in quick time and loves a duel or two to win those tight battles in midfield.
The 19-year-old was a Chelsea target last summer as well, days after Southampton signed him from Manchester City. Their offer was understandably rejected by the Saints.
There is a reason why the club is looking to add quality players to the midfield department. Mateo Kovacic is close to leaving with City interested, while Mason Mount is moving to the fellow Manchester club.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has given the green light to move to AC Milan and there is nothing advanced on N’Golo Kante’s contract despite it being expired at the end of the season. Jorginho’s departure in January to Arsenal also left a hole that was ultimately filled by Enzo Fernandez.

A young and talented player like Lavia can add fresh legs, ideas and thrust in the midfield. Moreover, Pochettino likes to work with top young talents and develop them into world-beaters. Lavia could be one at the Bridge.
