Manchester United ‘will submit’ lowball £50m offer for Chelsea star

Graham Potter throws his weight behind Chelsea star Mason Mount.

Manchester United close to signing Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount

According to the Telegraph, (h/t Metro) Manchester United will submit their initial offer for Mason Mount to Chelsea for roughly £50 million because they think it is a reasonable price.

After Chelsea failed to reach an agreement to renew Mount’s contract, Manchester United are now pushing to capture him during the summer transfer window.

With only one year remaining on his contract, the 24-year-old is leaning towards joining the Old Trafford team and has also agreed upon personal terms with them. As heartbreaking as it will be for the Blues fans, it seems that he is headed to the red side of Manchester.

Chelsea, on the other hand, demanded a lot more money than what United is prepared to give up—roughly £60 to £70 million.

Erik Ten Hag identified the England international as a top midfielder, and considering Mount’s superb off-the-ball abilities, he can strengthen their midfield for the upcoming season.

Even if Mauricio Pochettino wants Mount to stay at Chelsea, it’s getting harder to persuade the midfielder to be a part of the team’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

United will soon submit their first offer to sign Mount.

And the Cobham graduate was also asked about his move to Manchester United during the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon, but he gave a very cryptic reply and said:

No, I’m here to just enjoy this race today. Amazing day. I can’t wait to watch it.’

Given that Mount is still an emerging midfielder and can offer more whenever he evolves, this is a relatively low offer. He can fetch the clu more, given he is joining a direct rival, is still young, and is a homegrown player. His contract situation doesn’t make the situation easy for us.

More Chelsea News:

It remains to be seen what happens if we rejected their first bid for the player. It could prove to be a risky strategy because if Manchester United back out, we could be left with a tricky situation if other clubs don’t come in for Mount. Let’s see what happens here.
