Fabrizio Romano reveals Chelsea’s hidden weapon in their pursuit of Romeo Lavia

published :

Chelsea have agreed terms with Southampton to sign Liverpool target Romeo Lavia.

Fabrizio Romano believes Joe Shields could aid Chelsea in Romeo Lavia pursuit

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea admire Southampton star Romeo Lavia a lot and are very interested in signing the 19-year-old once the summer transfer window opens.

Additionally, he stated that Joe Shields, the current co-director of recruitment for Chelsea, can aid the Blues in luring the Saints’ youngster to the club given their longstanding relationship. In many ways, he could prove to be the Blues’ hidden weapon.

With relegation already guaranteed, Lavia could lead an exodus of players who are expected to leave Southampton in the summer. Liverpool are also in the fray for the youngster, making life difficult for Chelsea.

And Lavia, who joined Southampton last July, is anticipated to cost any team somewhere in the range of £45 million and £50 million. While it is a rather hefty amount, Lavia could become a mainstay in our midfield for years to come.

Meanwhile, Romano claims in his daily briefing with GIVEMESPORT. He believes Shields who signed the player earlier for both Manchester City and Southampton could aim for a hat-trick at Chelsea.

“Romeo Lavia is a player Chelsea loves. Chelsea have Joe Shields at the club, who is the director who signed Romeo Lavia for Manchester City’s academy and then signed Romeo Lavia at Southampton. He’s the man who built the career of Romeo Lavia, so it’s normal to have this kind of link. They are pursuing the player, but it’s not the only option.”

Lavia can be a good fit for us, but he is too young to start each match and still needs to develop particular abilities if he is deployed as the number six, as he cannot thoroughly take care of that position.

He will require another holding midfielder to complement him in that area. If N’Golo Kante extends his contract, we may be able to use Lavia as a backup for the Frenchman, until he matures into a complete defensive midfielder.

Joe Shields, who has previously assisted other teams in signing Lavia, might be crucial in helping us get the 19-year-old. Consequently, it looks like we have an edge over his signing.
