Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez
According to the Daily Mail, (h/t Metro) Mauricio Pochettino wants Chelsea to sign Lautaro Martinez for the upcoming season. Pochettino and the Blues have finally agreed terms for him to take over as their next manager.
In addition, the Argentine manager wants Chelsea to make a strong effort to recruit the 25-year-old for the upcoming campaign. Bringing in a striker is a priority for a side that lacks cutting-edge up top.
The Blues have continued to struggle to score goals this season, so finding a reliable striker has remained a top goal for the upcoming campaign.
With only 36 goals scored in the Premier League this season—less than half of Arsenal’s and Manchester City’s totals—West Londoners have a negative goal differential.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Napoli star Victor Osimhen for the upcoming season, despite Spurs manager Pochettino’s interest in Martinez. Whether the Blues will now shift priorities remains to be seen.
The Argentine attacker is wanted, though, by the former Tottenham Hotspur boss. Pochettino is also thought to have desired the 25-year-old while at Spurs. In 35 Serie A games this season, the Argentine has scored 20 goals. He is amongst the most prolific strikers to play in the Italian top flight in the last decade.
Martinez is a capable and reliable striker who has scored more than 10 goals in each of his previous four seasons and more than 20 goals in each of his last two campaigns for Inter in all competitions. He may be an incredible addition, but moving to the Premier League will be quite different from playing in Serie A.
He is only 25 and will undoubtedly have excellent poaching skills. But keep in mind that we did the same when we signed Lukaku for the 2021–22 season after his stellar tenure at Inter. So, before acting, we must exercise caution and make an assessment.

However, we may make a bid for him if Pochettino believes he might be the perfect striker for us and could address our goal-scoring problems. Martinez struck the right chord with Romelu Lukaku during their title-winning season under Antonio Conte. With Lukaku set to return to the Bridge, it remains to be seen if the Blues will reunite the dynamic duo in west London.
