Frank Lampard tips Christian Pulisic to match the likes of Salah, mane, and Sterling
Chelsea pulled one out of the hat as they signed American ace Christian Pulisic in the summer of 2019.
The flying winger did not get to the best of starts as the Blues fell to a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United. It was forgotten as he quickly put up a performance to remember against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup.
Although we lost on the night, it was clear that we have a real player on our hands. Back now after injury, Pulisic has set the ball rolling on a Chelsea renaissance.
The 21-year-old scored against both Aston Villa and Manchester City as Lampard’s side stretched their 4th-place lead to five points.
According to Express, the Blues boss has a high opinion of the winger and expects him to match the numbers put up by Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Raheem Sterling.
“He has the ability of the Sterlings, Salahs and Manes, who are now producing numbers from wide areas.”
The trio has redefined the role of a goalscoring midfielder and has scored goals for fun in recent seasons.
Lampard believes Pulisic has the ability to do the same and has praised the American’s application in training.
“He works hard. I’m delighted to have him. Now he has to set his sights as high as possible.”
Still young, Lampard believes that the youngster’s potential has led to high expectations, which he is now starting to meet.
Pulisic has scored 8 goals and 6 assists in 25 matches so far. This is an impressive return in his debut season. He is bound to improve with time and looks set to prove Lampard’s words prophetic.
