Chelsea contemplating Joao Felix’s signing and could use two players for swap deal with Atletico Madrid
Chelsea are pondering a swap deal including Marc Cucurella and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the permanent signing of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, as per the Evening Standard (h/t Express).
Chelsea hopes to sign him permanently the following year when the former Benfica forward’s loan agreement expires at the end of the current campaign.
The Portuguese forward’s £88 million price tag from the Spanish giants, however, has proven to be too much for West Londoners. The 23-year-old, though, has made a respectable start to his Chelsea loan stint, scoring three goals in 13 Premier League outings.
And the Blues are still keen on keeping the forward since they still think the 23-year-old will be able to contribute in the upcoming season under the new management.
Additionally, West Londoners will need to let go of a few players before making a permanent deal during the summer transfer window. They will need to exercise caution with their signings in the summer window, given that they have already spent a significant amount of money this season on young players.
Considering that Cucurella’s performances were from his first season with the club, including him doesn’t seem like a wise move considering our lack of depth at left-back. In addition, Ben Chilwell has a history of injuries this campaign, while Lewis Hall is still an inexperienced player and needs more time to develop to his full potential.
Meanwhile, selling Aubameyang would be a more logical trade, given he has failed to make his mark and has already made his feelings clear about leaving the club. However, it remains to be seen if he will be open to joining Atletico, considering his desire to return to Barcelona.
However, even if we don’t keep Felix for the following season, it won’t be a huge loss because Christopher Nkunku is set to join the team and both will play in the same position.

Swapping Marc Cucurella would make sense if we have a new left-back signing in mind. Joao Felix seems like a good player to keep, given his potential, ability and raw talent. He lacks that finishing touch in the final third but that will come with time.
