Report: Legendary 60-year-old manager rejects chance for third Chelsea stint

Jose Mourinho sends birthday wish to long time Chelsea fan.

Jose Mourinho passes on the opportunity for a third stint as Chelsea manager

According to the RMC Sport (h/t Metro), 60-year-old AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho is not interested in returning to Chelsea for a third stint as manager at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese tactician is a living legend among the Blues faithful, having won major trophies at both of his stints in West London. He is currently in charge of AS Roma and led them to the UEFA Conference League last season. Another European cup could be on the cards should Roma go all the way in the UEFA Europa League.

While Mourinho continues to excel, the same cannot be said of Chelsea. The Blues are drifting in the open sea without a captain and will need to bring in the right manager ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

Frank Lampard enjoyed his first win as Chelsea boss in his second stint last weekend but it is clear that he is not the person to take the club forward. Todd Bohely appears to be hankering for the past given the interest in bringing back Mourinho.

The 60-year-old has failed to give a clear appraisal of his future at the Stadio Olimpico. Unfortunately for us, while he might have failed to assure Roma fans of his long-term future, he has already rejected an approach from Chelsea. to return.

“The situation is clear, from a contractual point of view I still have one year on my contract. Football is football, sometimes contracts aren’t the most important thing.”

Mourinho does not appear averse to leaving Roma and has shown some interest in replacing Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese tactician has the personality and know-how to handle big egos, something that is needed at the Parc des Princes.

Getting back with an ex is not necessarily the best move and Mourinho’s disinterest in returning to Stamford Bridge is understandable. We have had an affair with the 60-year-old twice and it is better we don’t poison it with a third.

Chelsea were said to be close to landing Mauricio Pochettino. With news of interest in Mourinho now filtering through, it remains to be seen if our pursuit of the Argentine has hit a snag.
