Dean Jones claims potential Chelsea manager for next season Mauricio Pochettino has scouted Romeo Lavia
According to journalist Dean Jones, Mauricio Pochettino, who could manage Chelsea next season, has scouted Roméo Lavia.
Lavia has become a brilliant midfielder who has emerged from Southampton, and Chelsea are interested in acquiring him for the upcoming campaign. The 19-year-old is an ideal signing for the Blues, who are in need of a holding midfielder.
There are only two players competing for that position: N’Golo Kante and Denis Zakaria. Zakaria’s loan will expire next year, and Chelsea have no plans to purchase him; thus, Kante will remain the only defensive midfielder.
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is anticipated to become the next permanent manager of the Blues, and according to writer Dean Jones, Lavia is probably one of the players the Argentine has looked at. He told GIVEMESPORT, (h/t Football.London), he stated:
“The fact that Mauricio Pochettino has been out of football for a little while means that he’d have been drawing up his own plans, spotting some players around Europe that he feels like would be a good fit for certain teams that he might have had a chance of ending up at. So yeah, Lavia is definitely one of interest, but he won’t be the only one.”
The 19-year-old is on the rise and has emerged as a vital player for Southampton. N’Golo Kante is at the dusk of his playing days while Jorginho was sold to Arsenal in January. Lavia can be an important addition in that regard and be the face of our next generation’s midfield.
Given Pochettino’s talent for developing young players into elite athletes, the Argentine manager can undoubtedly bring out the best in him with his assistance. Plus, let us hope he still has good relations with the Saints that can help us sign the former Manchester City academy player.
Lavia could want to join a top club if Southampton are relegated, and that is a very, very real possibility. It is a great chance to strike while the iron is hot.
