Chelsea in negotiations with Kai Havertz

According to the Athletic, Chelsea have entered the negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for German sensation Kai Havertz.

The 21-year-old is one of Europe’s best young players. His performances have seen him garner the attention of some of the continent’s best teams.

Havertz has scored 16 goals and 9 assists in 41 games so far this season. He has been in excellent form since the restart and has grabbed six goals and one assist in seven games. (h/t Transfermarkt)

If all goes to plan, he will join Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner as the new recruits at Stamford Bridge. An enviable trio for any team to sign, let alone in one window.

According to the report, Havertz is keen to leave and has already informed Leverkusen of the same. Frank Lampard is keen to wrap up his summer business quickly as he hopes to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City.

It is a season of change at Stamford Bridge with new players set to usher in a new era. The likes of Pedro and Willian are set to leave, making reinforcements a necessity rather than a luxury. (h/t Athletic)

The main point of contention is the German’s £90m price tag. Leverkusen lost to Hertha Berlin last weekend and their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League is not in their hands anymore.

It remains to be seen if the scenario can help us sign the youngster on the cheap.
