Daniel Sturridge feels Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku could be the next Harry Kane

Romelu Lukaku, according to Daniel Sturridge, might become Chelsea FC’s Harry Kane if the team’s new manager retains his faith in the struggling forward in the upcoming campaign.

Lukaku, who is now on loan at Inter Milan and having yet another miserable season, will probably return to Chelsea when his loan is finished. He has so far struggled to make a name for himself at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian forward’s season has also been affected by injury. He has scored three goals in as many Serie A appearances. Chelsea are looking for a long-term solution for the 29-year-old, whose future at the club is far from assured.

His signing by the Blues in 2021–2020 to address their goal-scoring issue turned out to be a terrible mistake. The Belgian international has only netted eight Premier League goals in 26 outings.

Sturridge, a former Liverpool striker, believes Chelsea should keep the Belgian forward rather than spend a significant amount of money on a new attacker. He also claims to Sky Sports, (h/t Express), that once they sign a new manager for the upcoming campaign and he is able to maintain his trust, he may become the next Harry Kane.

“It depends on the manager. The new manager could come in and build a team around him, and I think that is probably what Lukaku needs.”

“We will see. Hopefully whoever comes in will fancy him and give him an opportunity because he didn’t really get a good chance to come out and prove himself once again at Chelsea; it was a very short period of time.”

Sturridge could be correct, and Lukaku could flourish under a new manager who could use him in a different way, although bringing him back could be a risky decision due to his inconsistency. Now, however, it seems the 29-year-old is picking up form, with five goals in three games.

The manager’s preference for a striker will also be a factor since some like a deep-lying forward who should be ready to enter the box when a chance presents itself, while others prefer a forward who can assist in building up.

And if he wants to follow in Harry Kane’s footsteps, he must be a reliable striker and score 20 or more goals each season, just as the England international does. So, let’s wait and see if Lukaku can convince the new manager that he is the man for the job.
