Carlo Ancelotti feels Chelsea could turn their season around if they defeat Real Madrid.

Chelsea are eyeing up a potential return for Carlo Ancelotti in the hot seat

According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, via CFCPys (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are eyeing up a potential return for Carlo Ancelotti as the search for a new manager continues.

Ancelotti, who is currently in his second stint as a Real Madrid manager, is expected to leave the European champions come the end of this season. He is one of the best coaches in the competition’s history, having lifted the UCL trophy four times (2x AC Milan, 2x Real Madrid) during his career.

A few days ago, the Athletic (Subscription Required) reported that the Brazil national team are set to appoint the Italian as their next manager after sacking Tite just after their World Cup campaign.

Ancelotti had a very successful first spell at Stamford Bridge between 2009 and 2011. He averaged 2.03 points per game during his time in West London, which is very good. He also led us to a Premier League and FA Cup win.

Generally, managers who come for their second stint after succeeding in their first, are not able to replicate the previous work. But, the Italian has done at Madrid and won the European Cup and the league last season.

But, having read the aforementioned report from the Athletic, it seems like he is going to take the Brazil job unless something drastically changes.

Hence, Chelsea may have to look elsewhere to find Graham Potter’s replacement. Fabrizio Romano has tweeted that Julian Nagelsmann has been contacted directly, while there are possibilities that Luis Enrique could take the job as well.

It was reported in Sky Sports that the Blues’ co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are concerned by Nagelsmann’s age (35).

Truth be told, other than his young age, the German is one of the best tactical coaches in Europe. He also has the experience of working with Champions League level clubs before – Bayern and RB Leipzig. He also took Hoffenheim to that competition a few years ago.

More Chelsea News:

With Ancelotti not looking like a possibility, Chelsea must hire Nagelsmann as soon as possible. Bruno Saltor’s Blues fared well in the goalless draw against Liverpool on Tuesday night but the same problems – especially in attack with the lack of scoring goals – were on display. He certainly won’t be a long-term option for us given his inexperience in management, but it wasn’t a bad debut as head coach for him.
