Manchester City are exploring a move to sign Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell
According to The Athletic (h/t Football.London), Manchester City hold a genuine interest in making a move for Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell after the departure of Joao Cancelo.
We all know that the Premier League champions were interested in Chilwell even before Chelsea signed him from Leicester City in the summer of 2020.
Now, after letting go of Cancelo to Bayern Munich in January, albeit on loan, Pep Guardiola has rekindled his interest in Chilwell.
While the interest from City was inevitable, it is revealed that Graham Potter and Todd Boehly are not in favour of letting go of the England international.
Daily Mail has reported that as many as 11 players could be sold by Chelsea in the summer window as they try and reduce the bloated nature of the squad.
But, it seems as if Chilwell won’t be one of them. The 26-year-old is starting to string a few performances together after struggling for fitness in the first half of this season. His goal and performance against Leicester showed that he is slowly coming back to his best.
Although Potter has Marc Cucurella as an option for the left-back/left wing-back position, he uses the Spaniard as a left-sided centre-back, leaving Chilwell as the best asset for the wing-back slot.
With him regaining fitness and playing games consistently, it is time that the former Foxes defender stays at Chelsea and shows that he can deliver the goods season after season and be a fixture in his position.

We know he has the qualities in him to become one of the best wing-backs the club has seen. For that to happen though, the Blues need to make sure City do not grasp him away in the coming summer.
