French pundit Frank Leboeuf hails the performance of Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella
Speaking in the ESPN programme (h/t Metro), French pundit and former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf hailed the performance of Marc Cucurella in the Blues’ win over Borussia Dortmund.
Chelsea overturned a one-goal deficit by beating the German side by two goals at Stamford Bridge to reach the quarter-final of the Champions League.
Cucurella, who has had an underwhelming first season at the club so far, was one of the best players on the field. He was also the UEFA Player of the Match.
Here’s what Leboeuf said when asked about the performance of the Spaniard (h/t Metro):
“Finally, we have found a Chelsea team playing the way I would love the football to be played.
“Going forward, not just trying to get the possession but going forward, forward fast. Cucurella, fantastic. Kai Havertz, fantastic.”
Only a few weeks ago, we heard the former Chelsea defender slamming Cucurella and questioning the money spent by the club on him. How the tone can change after one performance is something to behold.
For the former Brighton defender now, it is time to carry on the form he picked up. It would be great if finishes this season off with a string of great displays.
That goes for the whole team too, who would be feeling a lot better after winning the last two games. They would be hoping to convert this mini turnaround into something substantial.
It has been a great few days for manager Graham Potter, with some of his decisions going to plan. His choice to go with a back-three against Dortmund and persist with the forward line of Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Joao Felix worked extremely well.
He would now look to build on the confidence and take the next step, which is to use this form and impart it to every player in the squad for them to perform at their best.
