Loaned-out Chelsea defender Levi Colwill opened up about his future

As quoted by Fabrizio Romano in his tweet, Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, who is currently on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion, opened up about his future at the club.

Colwill, who was starting to play regular minutes after the World Cup, picked up a muscle injury in late January. He could yet play a major part in the final half of this season for the Seagulls.

Back in mid-January, Football.London reported that the 20-year-old has a clear pathway to return to Chelsea in the summer and play regular minutes here. Since then, the club has extended Thiago Silva’s stay by a year and have Wesley Fofana back from injury. Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah and Kalidou Koulibaly is there as well.

Keeping those things in mind, will Colwill feel that his immediate future is playing for Chelsea? One would doubt so unless the club manages to sell a centre-back to accommodate the 20-year-old in the squad.

The England U21 international was closely looked at by Gareth Southgate for potentially including him in the senior national team squad for the March internationals, but the injury came at the wrong time.

Not just at Brighton, Colwill had an impressive loan spell at Huddersfield Town previously too. So, he is doing all the right things to become one of the best defenders in the future.

Whether it is for Chelsea or for anyone else, remains to be seen. The 20-year-old is tracked by Liverpool. So, it would be interesting to see what his near future looks like.

More Chelsea News:

From what we have seen on Colwill, he should fit in well in Graham Potter’s ball-playing system from the back. Let’s hope he comes back and plays for us next season onward.
