Chelsea goalkeeping target Jordan Pickford signs a new deal with Everton
According to The Times, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who was a Chelsea target, has agreed to sign a new contract with the Toffees.
The England number one, who initially had his contract at Goodison Park expiring in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt), has agreed to put pen-to-paper to a new deal that lasts until 2027.
The 28-year-old’s new contract does not have a clause where he can automatically leave Everton should they drop down to the Championship. The Toffees are in a precarious position at the table right now.
We have seen reports of Pickford being linked with the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. What this news does is erase any doubts over his future with the Merseyside club for the foreseeable future.
If we talk from Chelsea’s viewpoint, this should not be bad news. Pickford is a decent keeper who has mistakes in him. He is not comfortable playing out from the back as well. So, it might not have been a good fit had we attempted to sign him in the coming summer.
In the last few weeks, the Blues got linked with Brentford stopper David Raya, who has rejected new contract offers from the Bees to potentially move on in the summer. The Spaniard suits the Graham Potter style more as a goalkeeper.
With the options we have currently, it does not seem like Edouard Mendy will stay for very long, while Kepa Arrizabalaga has a mistake in him.

Hence, Chelsea should look to sign a solid keeper in the summer. The options are limited in the Premier League apart from Raya. Maybe, they would need to scout someone from Europe, just like they did to get Mendy from Rennes in 2020.
