Following renewal of Chelsea contract,d John Terry sends heartfelt message to Thiago Silva
Thiago Silva, whose initial deal had only a few months left, signed a new one that will keep him in place through 2024, (Transfermarkt).
The 38-year-old was expected to leave when his contract expired (h/t Football.London), but Chelsea were pleased with his performances, so he stayed until 2024.
Silva has performed admirably for Chelsea ever since joining from PSG and has remained a reliable player this season despite the poor performance of the club. It is interesting that despite the club’s acquisition of more seasoned defenders, Silva has kept true to form despite the few concerns that have been raised regarding his age.
The former AC Milan defender has played 19 times for the West Londoners this season, contributing to their six clean sheets.
And after agreeing to a new contract, Silva got a touching message from John Terry, a former Chelsea defender. Terry was delighted to see the Brazilian defender sign a contract extension at Chelsea, as he wrote, “Things you love to see.”
Terry will undoubtedly be glad that Silva’s contract was renewed because of how essential the Brazilian has been to the team over the years and how much commitment he has put in despite being 38 years old.
Numerous young defenders who joined the team throughout the summer and January transfer windows have benefited from his mentoring.
The Blues kept changing the defenders on their left side of the defence since they couldn’t find anyone who could play effectively beside Silva.
However, it now seems as though Benoit Badiashile has gotten along well with the Brazilian defender and is developing while partnering with him.
For Chelsea supporters, this news that the former Paris Saint-Germain defender has extended his contract and is dedicated to defending the Blue shirt at any expense is tremendous.
