Chelsea consider loaning Anthony Gordon back to Everton in order to complete January deal
According to The Times (h/t Metro), Chelsea are considering an option to loan back Anthony Gordon to Everton for the rest of this season as part of the deal.
Everton want £55m to sell the winger. Chelsea are offering a deal where they can buy him now but loan him back to Goodison Park till the end of this campaign to help them save against relegation.
Newcastle United are also in the race for the player. But, the Magpies are offering a package of less than £55m and won’t allow him to go back to Merseyside for the remaining months of this season.
Both clubs had summer interest in Gordon as well. Everton rejected a £35m bid from Newcastle, while a £45m offer from Chelsea was pushed back,
The Blues have signed two top-quality wingers Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke on permanent deals and got Joao Felix on a loan deal. But, they are willing to add another winger to the squad.
Keeping that in mind and considering the underwhelming season Gordon has had so far, it does not make sense to fork out £55m for him, irrespective of the option of loaning him back now.
Instead of that, the club can focus on spending the money to sign a midfielder who can come now and make a much-needed difference in that department.
We are in the race for Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Amadou Onana and Alexis Mac Allister. The aim should be to get one of them over the line before the end of this month rather than spending time and energy on the Gordon deal.

It is no disrespect to the player, but he hasn’t had a consistent period of good performances under his belt. He is a talented player who has shown glimpses of good play now and then.
